What happened to IGDA San Francisco?

Here in San Francisco we used to have a thriving game developer community gathering. Every few months, Rudy from the IGDA would organize a meeting which included an interesting speaker, and drinks afterward. Usually these events would take place at the auditorium of the Metreon, the same building which houses the Sony Playstation store. But when the IGDA office closed down here in San Francisco, the gatherings stopped. It was a confluence of events, in fact – around the same time, the Metreon building was sold to Westfield, a shopping mall developer, and perhaps the goodwill of the previous owner (Sony) dried up.
I don’t care to place blame anywhere, we just need to start it up again! Last week, Charlie of Unknown Worlds held a “Postmortem” meeting, similar to Boston’s “Postmortem” events, and it was fantastic. Apparently there are also San Francisco “meetup” events. But what of the format with a speaker? I miss the formal events.
At the end of this week is the IGDA’s “Leadership Forum” here in San Francisco. It looks like it is going to be a great event. For those of you who are local, let’s meet up to talk more about kickstarting IGDA here in San Francisco!
