Four Things

Kim Pallister tagged me with a blog meme virus. I haven’t seen one of these before, but it’s basically the same as an email chain letter. Curious, I traced it back to its source.
Here is Kim’s “Four things” post.
Kim wasn’t tagged, but was inspired by Jason Kottke’s post.
Tracing it back is entertaining and I found all sorts of blogs I knew nothing about, all of which I’m sure exist in their own subcultures with intertwined connections that all tie together similarly to friendster or linkedin or myspace. This blog meme virus goes back some 30 steps. I won’t bore you with the details, but here is the originator of this chain, who we can all blame. It’s not clear if she was the original, original creator, however, I’ll bet that she feels good about starting this blog meme virus. Her feeling-goodness will doubtless spread to other bloggers, who will also attempt to start blog meme viruses, thus beginning a meta blog-meme-virus-spreading meme virus. Yikes.
I’m not going to continue this virus, and I don’t feel bad about it. I pulled out some of my college math skills and it appears that it should have covered everyone in the entire world on about its 16th or 17th replication. (It’s a 4^n summation.) Since this virus is on its 30th replication, either some people are opting out, or they’re getting hit multiple times. I’ll follow the example of those who are dropping out. 🙂 It would be interesting to calculate a theoretical drop-out rate by researching the number of blogs in existence, and using that as an approximate maximum number of posts, but I’ll refrain for now.
Instead I’ll just post some quick answers myself. 🙂
