I spent some time today flipping through the Virtual Museum of the City of San Francisco. It continues to amaze me that there are pictures and videos up on the site showing San Francisco after the earthquake… from 1906!
In particular, there are some great movies here. I had some trouble viewing them but was successful at pulling them down manually using FTP. There aren’t many images that look familiar… but the few that are provide gentle reminders of what life was like then, and what life might be like if we again suffer a catastrophic earthquake here in San Francisco.
In one of the videos I noticed a statue that looked familiar:
Sure enough, it’s the same statue that is just a few blocks from my house, near City Hall:
I had no idea that statue was over 100 years old. Crazy.
